Cranston, R.I., April 27, 2012 – WJAR / NBC 10 and Cox Communications join forces to launch Ocean State Networks (OSN) on Cox channel 5 and in HD on Cox channel 1005. OSN will air NBC 10 Newscasts throughout the day and night, as well as Cox Sports programming including live local high school and collegiate sports events. OSN is exclusively available to Cox customers. As a result of the launch of OSN, Cox Sports (channels 3 and 1003) will be removed from the lineup in the coming weeks, with all future Cox Sports programming airing on OSN.
“It is exciting to be part of this project,” said Vic Vetters, WJAR / NBC 10 General Manager. “NBC 10 News is the market leader when it comes to local news and we pride ourselves in being everywhere for our viewers. We’re on mobile devices, on the web, on social networks and now, with the addition of OSN, our viewers can access NBC 10 on Cox when the time is convenient for them.”
“Cox is committed to providing the local programming that our customers want, and NBC 10 is the perfect partner for local news content,” said Paul Cronin, Senior Vice President and General Manager at Cox New England. “With the inclusion of live Cox Sports programming like Providence College and University of Rhode Island basketball, Ocean State Networks is the best source for Rhode Island news and sports.”
In addition to the NBC 10 Newscasts, OSN will feature programming from the Emmy Award-winning Cox Sports. This includes the Big East Conference, Providence College basketball, University of Rhode Island athletics and much more. OSN will also feature exclusive coverage of Rhode Island Interscholastic League Championships and other local high school games. Locally-produced programs such as Chef 2 Go and syndicated sports programming will round out the lineup of local programming on OSN.
Ocean State Networks will make its formal debut on May 2, 2012 – with a preview beginning April 30 – on Cox channel 5 and in HD on Cox channel 1005.
