    RIIL Girls’ Hockey Championships Recap

    Joe Kayata recaps two exciting series of Rhode Island girls high school hockey. In the state championship division, LaSalle took on Mount St. Charles in a rematch of last year’s finals. LaSalle Academy took home the title winning both games with a 2-0 score. In Division 2, the Cumberland/Lincoln Co-Op team faced up against the Barrington/Mount Hope/Portsmouth Co-Op team. The Eagles swept the series winning the first game 6-5 and the second 5-2.

    RIIL Girls’ Basketball Tournament Recaps

    Joe Kayata recaps the Rhode Island Interscholastic League girls’ basketball championships for all three divisions. In Division 1, it was LaSalle Academy taking the title for the third straight year with a 62-29 win over Barrington. Narragansett captured the Division 2 title winning 56-42 over Prout. Juanita Sanchez came out on top over Middletown in the Division 3 championships 43-36.

    RIIL Boys’ Basketball Open Tournament Recap

    This past weekend four boys’ basketball teams headed to the University of Rhode Island to compete for the RIIL Credit Union State Championships. Originally 16 division one, two and three teams qualified. But on Friday night, Hope, North Kingstown, Classical and North Smithfield were the four teams remaining. In the first semifinal game, North Kingstown defeated Hope in a thrilling overtime contest 68-64. Classical was victorious over the previously undefeated North Smithfield Northmen. 61-64 was the final in that one. […]

    Classical’s Coach Kavanagh visits Varsity Life

    The head coach of the Classical Purple, John Kavanagh, sits down with Joe Kayata after an exciting weekend of basketball. The Purple won the state open tournament Sunday night with a 57-52 victory over North Kingstown. Classical was led by its three 1000-point scorers, Terrill Toe, Ismael Batista and Kealen Ives. After the championship, Ives was named MVP of the tournament and the Purple celebrated the title.
