Cox Cable customers can watch the best and brightest of Rhode Island’s high schools athletes rewarded at the annual Cox RI Sports Awards, presented at 8pm tonight on OSN channels 5, 1005HD. Views can also watch anytime on Cox Local On Demand.

The annual event which took place at Rhodes on the Pawtuxet, began with a beautiful rendition of our national anthem, sung by Rebecca Sandall.

Frank Carpano from NBC 10 and local sports host Scott Cordishi served as emcees for the evening that included a Cox Sports-produced video feature on the Unified teams which included some inspiring Special Olympians from Rhode Island.

Cox Sports Recuiting Insider Adam Finkelstein gives us a hopeful forecast for Dan Hurley’s URI Rams next season, with E.C. Matthews and Hasaan Martin as notable recruiting coups for Hurley.

6’7″ Hasaan Martin’s high school coach Rich Buckheit says that his former player is a “Mesmerizing talent. You can’t keep your eyes off him when he’s playing.”

Martin verbally committed to the to URI last September. The multi-talented forward chose Rhode Island over St. Joseph’s and Ed Cooley’s Providence Friars, schools that entered into the recruiting process after the Rams had.

Ali Mink Honored at Scituate Lacrosse Senior Night

Scituate senior Ali Mink recently passed away from brain cancer. She had played lacrosse for the team and they honored her at their senior night. The team wore pink shirts, Mink’s favorite color, and raised money for the organization that has been started in her name.

Nicole Scola Wins Fourth Girls’ Golf Championship

Prout senior Nicole Scola won her fourth consecutive girls’ state golf championship becoming just the second Rhode Islander for four-peat. The final title didn’t come easy as the senior was faced with tough competition as well as having to overcome a scary accident that occurred four nights before the competition.
