The 2014 boys open basketball tournament is over with the Hendricken Hawks being crowned champions.   The open state tournament has now had 4 different champions since the open format started in 2010-2011.  The Hawks came into the tournament as the 5th overall seed and their toughest game throughout the entire tourney was round 1 against East Greenwich.  The Avengers riding an emotional high pushed the Hawks to the limit losing by just 4 points.  E.G who […]

    RIIL Boys’ Basketball Open Tournament Recap

    This past weekend four boys’ basketball teams headed to the University of Rhode Island to compete for the RIIL Credit Union State Championships. Originally 16 division one, two and three teams qualified. But on Friday night, Hope, North Kingstown, Classical and North Smithfield were the four teams remaining. In the first semifinal game, North Kingstown defeated Hope in a thrilling overtime contest 68-64. Classical was victorious over the previously undefeated North Smithfield Northmen. 61-64 was the final in that one. […]
