Head coach of the Mount St. Charles boys’ hockey team, Bill Belisle, and his son and assistant coach, David Belisle, sit down with Frank Carpano on April 1st’s Varsity Life. The pair led the Mounties to another state title, their 5th in the past 6 years and 31st in the past 36 years. Bill Belisle is one of the most successful hockey coaches in history and he talks about what makes this title so special.
Mount St. Charles Academy senior Brian Belisle had high expectations coming into this year’s hockey season. But two concussions within a short period of time sidelined the team’s captain for over a month. Belisle missed school and hockey for several weeks as he recovered from a major head injury. Although it was not the ideal season for him, Belisle talks about his decision to take time off and how important that was going into the final stretch of the season.
Host Frank Carpano recaps the Rhode Island Interscholastic League state hockey finals for each division. Mount St. Charles defeated LaSalle in the title series sweeping the Rams in two games. The division 1 championship matched up Barrington and Burrillville. That series went to three games with the Broncos winning it all. Lincoln swept Prout for the division 2 title. Mount St. Charles took Game #1 fof the D1 Hockey Championhip by thrashing LaSalle Academy 7-0. Game 2 will be televised again on OSN channel 5, 1005HD and streamed on CoxSportsOnline.

Joe Kayata recaps two exciting series of Rhode Island girls high school hockey. In the state championship division, LaSalle took on Mount St. Charles in a rematch of last year’s finals. LaSalle Academy took home the title winning both games with a 2-0 score. In Division 2, the Cumberland/Lincoln Co-Op team faced up against the Barrington/Mount Hope/Portsmouth Co-Op team. The Eagles swept the series winning the first game 6-5 and the second 5-2.
