    PC Takes Softball Doubleheader Over URI

    The Providence College softball team (14-23-1, 2-9 BIG EAST) defeated the Rhode Island Rams, 2-1 and 6-2, in a weekday doubleheader on Tuesday, April 16 in Providence, R.I. Senior Corinne Clauss (Davie, Fla.) pitched the complete first game, tallied a season-high 12 strikeouts in the Friar’s first victory and held the Rams to one unearned run off four hits.     Rams battle but fall to LaSalle, 72-65

    In a game televised by Cox Sports, Rhode Island lost to the LaSalle Explorers, 72-65, at the Ryan Center. “I thought we played well against one of the very best teams in our league and a team that’s going to go to the NCAA Tournament,” said URI Head Coach Dan Hurley. “We really did everything we wanted to do against a high quality team.”

    Rhody Falls to VCU, 70-64

    Rhode Island kept battling but came up just short in a 70-64 loss to VCU Wednesday. VCU led 43-41 before going on a 19-6 run to open up a 15-point lead with 4:00 remaining in the game. Rhody managed to get within five points three times in the final minutes, but was unable to complete the rally.     George Washington’s Joe McDonald hit a baseline jumper with nine seconds left to lead his team to a dramatic 66-65 win over URI televised on OSN from the Ryan Center. The Rams nearly won the game with Xavier Munford 3-point attempt that rimmed out. Freshman Jordan Hare rebounded Munford’s miss and was clearly fouled on the follow-up but there was no call.
