PC Takes Softball Doubleheader Over URI

The Providence College softball team (14-23-1, 2-9 BIG EAST) defeated the Rhode Island Rams, 2-1 and 6-2, in a weekday doubleheader on Tuesday, April 16 in Providence, R.I. Senior Corinne Clauss (Davie, Fla.) pitched the complete first game, tallied a season-high 12 strikeouts in the Friar’s first victory and held the Rams to one unearned run off four hits. The UMass Minutemen defeated the URI Rams 75-66 Saturday afternoon in a game televised and streamed online by Cox Sports. Andre Malone, Nik Malesevic and Ryan Brooks played their final game as Rams at the Ryan Center.

R.I.P. Bruce “Soup” Campbell

Bruce `Soup’ Campbell, one of the PC Friar basketball all-time greats, has died after a battle with cancer. He was 56 years old. Campbell was one of the most sought-after recruits in the nation in 1974 and an All-American at Wilbur Cross High. Along with another Friar great (now radio broadcaster Joe Hassett), “Soup” was instrumental in the greatest upset in PC history when the Friars beat No. 1 ranked Michigan Dec. 29, 1976.
