Xavier Munford knocked down a contested 3-pointer with 3.3 seconds remaining to lift Rhode Island (7-16, 2-8 Atlantic 10) to a 75-72 victory over Dayton Wednesday, in a game televised by Cox Sports. Rhody Falls to VCU, 70-64
Rhode Island kept battling but came up just short in a 70-64 loss to VCU Wednesday. VCU led 43-41 before going on a 19-6 run to open up a 15-point lead with 4:00 remaining in the game. Rhody managed to get within five points three times in the final minutes, but was unable to complete the rally. Rams fall short at the buzzer
George Washington’s Joe McDonald hit a baseline jumper with nine seconds left to lead his team to a dramatic 66-65 win over URI televised on OSN from the Ryan Center. The Rams nearly won the game with Xavier Munford 3-point attempt that rimmed out. Freshman Jordan Hare rebounded Munford’s miss and was clearly fouled on the follow-up but there was no call. Rams top Georgia State 65-60
Rhode Island never trailed as it won its second game in a row, beating Georgia State 65-60 Saturday afternoon, in a game televised on OSN and streamed over CoxSportsOnline. Rams win their first game in dramatic fashion
The Rhody Rams won their the first game of the Dan Hurley era in dramatic fashion – a 78-72 double overtime victory at Auburn. Xavier Munford hit an off-balance, 28 footer to tie the game at the end of overtime. In OT, the gritty Rams team outlasted Auburn, 78-72 Munford finished with a game-high 33 points. Nikola Malesevic added 19 points. The 6-2 guard drained a 3-pointer as time expired, forcing the second and final five minutes of play.
