    Jon Gillies talks with Cox Sports after shut-out

    Jon Gillies, one of the top goaltending prospects in this summer’s NHL draft, is quickly becoming the reason to watch Providence College hockey this winter. In Saturday’s 3-0 victory over Maine, Gillies stopped all 26 shots he faced to earn his first career shutout.     For the third consecutive week, men’s hockey freshman goaltender Jon Gillies has earned a weekly Hockey East award. On Monday, the conference announced that Gillies was selected as the Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week.     Friars score sweep over Bears

    In a game televised by Cox Sports, Providence College men’s hockey team defeated Maine, 3-0, at Schneider Arena on Saturday night, led by freshman goaltender Jon Gillies’ first career shutout in the Friar net. Gillies stopped all 26 shots he faced in the game as the Friars posted a weekend sweep of the Black Bears.
