    Xavier Munford knocked down a contested 3-pointer with 3.3 seconds remaining to lift Rhode Island (7-16, 2-8 Atlantic 10) to a 75-72 victory over Dayton Wednesday, in a game televised by Cox Sports. The Rams led throughout the second half after taking a 36-35 lead with 18:21 remaining on a Nikola Malesevic layup.     Rhody Falls to VCU, 70-64

    Rhode Island kept battling but came up just short in a 70-64 loss to VCU Wednesday. VCU led 43-41 before going on a 19-6 run to open up a 15-point lead with 4:00 remaining in the game. Rhody managed to get within five points three times in the final minutes, but was unable to complete the rally.     Rams fall short at the buzzer

    George Washington’s Joe McDonald hit a baseline jumper with nine seconds left to lead his team to a dramatic 66-65 win over URI televised on OSN from the Ryan Center. The Rams nearly won the game with Xavier Munford 3-point attempt that rimmed out. Freshman Jordan Hare rebounded Munford’s miss and was clearly fouled on the follow-up but there was no call.     Friars Top Rams 72-57 Highlights

    LaDontae Henton and Kadeem Batts helped lead their team to a 72-57 Friar victory,  in the PC-URI state rivalry game. Henton had 21 points and 17 rebounds. Batts continued his recent potent offensive performances,  with a game-high 23 points. A bright spot for URI once again was the play of 6’10″ freshman Jordan Hare. Hare led the Rams with an impressive 14 points , mostly scored on alley-oop dunks and soaring offensive rebounds.

    Despite Jordan Hare’s impressive performance, Loyola topped URI in OT 58-54, at the Ryan Center. URI freshman Hare had 16 rebounds, 7 blocks and 8 points. Nik Malesevic led the Rams’ scoring with 16 points and Xavier Munford added 14.     Xavier Munford transfers to URI

    KINGSTON, R.I. — Head coach Dan Hurley announced that Xavier Munford has committed to join the University of Rhode Island men’s basketball team for the 2012-13 academic year.  Munford will continue his academic and athletic endeavors at URI, transferring from Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluff, Iowa. “Xavier is an athletic guard who is both a scorer and a lockdown defender,” said Hurley.  “I have some familiarity with Xavier from our time at St. Benedict’s and he has developed […]
