Julia Kavanagh of Portmouth High School came up with the idea to have a special prom for all of the unified sports teams of Rhode Island. She organized the event as part of her senior project with the help of classmate Brooke Waters. The event was a success and all of the athletes from unified basketball and volleyball had a wonderful evening.
The LaSalle Academy girls’ hockey team made history this year skating to a perfect 21-0 record en route to a second consecutive state title. Melanie Pellowski met up with the team’s four senior captains all of whom played crucial roles on an doff the ice this season.
Senior Donald Foster and junior Matthew Foster have been offensive leaders for Masters Regional Academy throughout their basketball careers. In his final season, Donald reached the 2,000 point mark while his brother surpassed 1,000 for his high school career. The pair discusses what it’s like playing on for Masters and playing along side your brother.
Warwick Veterans senior Emily Fox reached a milestone in her high school ice hockey career. She recently scored her 100th point, a rare feat for high school players. The Warwick Veterans squad a very successful season reaching the state semi-finals.
David Vespia of Cranston West High School is an emotional leader for his teammates on the basketball court. For every game, he wears a pair of bright pink sneakers in honor of his mother, who is battling breast cancer. He discusses what basketball means to him and how it has helped him get through the tough times. Vespia’s teammates also talk about his role on the team and how their support of their friend reaches beyond the hardwood.
Due to fading student interest, this will be the final season of boys’ ice hockey at Tolman High School. The team members are greatly upset, but plan on playing the season out to the best of their abilities. The team wants to go out with a bang and make a run at the state title. Melanie Pellowski caught up with the Tolman team.

The 6-foot-1, 193-pound senior quarterback led the Rams to a 10-2 record and a repeat berth in the Citizens Bank Division I Super Bowl. Francis is the sixth Gatorade Rhode Island Football Player of the Year to be chosen from La Salle Academy.
