    Hockey Friars sweep Merrimack with 4-2 win

    In another terrific hockey game televised on OSN and streamed at CoxSportsOnline, the PC Friars came from behind to defeat Merrimack 4-2 Saturday evening at Schneider Arena. Conor MacPhee scored a wraparound goal to tie the game 2-2 with 13:11 left in the third period. Shane Luke later scored on a breakaway to give the Friars a 3-2 lead with 7:11 left in the game.     Scituate senior Ali Mink recently passed away from brain cancer. She had played lacrosse for the team and they honored her at their senior night. The team wore pink shirts, Mink’s favorite color, and raised money for the organization that has been started in her name.

    Mount St. Charles senior Kelly O’Neill is a three sport athlete competing in cross country, swimming and lacrosse for the Mounties. Her final season was cut short as she tore her ACL in April. O’Neill remained a part of the team showing her support on the sidelines, at practices and in the huddle.

    Senior Hannah Schilke and her sister freshman Rachel Shilke both play lacrosse for Westerly High School. They both also volunteer as junior firefighters. They have been helping out in the local community their entire lives and both sisters agree that they have learned a lot from their firefighter training.

    Julia Kavanagh of Portmouth High School came up with the idea to have a special prom for all of the unified sports teams of Rhode Island. She organized the event as part of her senior project with the help of classmate Brooke Waters. The event was a success and all of the athletes from unified basketball and volleyball had a wonderful evening.
